How to apply

About the position

We are offering a PhD position within the research program “Innovative multi-scale solutions for efficient water resource management in agriculture”, hosted by the Università degli Studi di Padova – Dipartimento TESAF, in the framework of the PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) initiative.

Research Focus

The program aims to explore, develop, and apply an approach based on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus. This framework promotes the efficient and multifunctional use of water, while ensuring energy efficiency, the integration of renewable energy sources, food security, and the conservation or restoration of ecosystems, ecosystem services, and biodiversity. The research will translate this theoretical framework into operational models that are adaptable to the specific territorial, ecological, and socio-economic characteristics of the Mediterranean region, particularly in the context of climate change challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on multi-scale solutions for water resource management in agriculture.
  • Develop and apply WEFE Nexus-based operational models.
  • Adapt models to Mediterranean territorial, ecological, and socio-economic conditions.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., environmental science, agricultural engineering, water resources management, or related disciplines).
  • Strong academic record and research potential.
  • Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and international team.

We Offer

  • A fully funded PhD position for up to 3 years.
  • Access to state-of-the-art research facilities and a vibrant academic environment at the University of Padova.
  • Opportunities for collaboration within the PRIMA network and with Mediterranean partners.
