About the position

Ghent University is seeking a PhD candidate in Equine Internal Medicine for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Reproduction and Population Medicine. This is a temporary appointment at 85%, with one opening available.

Your Tasks

  • Conduct academic research (at least 50% of your assignment) in preparation of a doctoral dissertation
  • Assist in teaching activities at the department’s equine internal medicine clinic
  • Support internal and external services of the department
  • Participate in night and weekend duties at the equine clinic following a rotation schedule
  • Develop skills in equine internal medicine

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Science (must be fulfilled by appointment start date)
  • For diplomas from outside the EU: a NARIC equivalence certificate is required (or proof of application at appointment start)
  • Interest in academic and project-based research and services
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills
  • Experience in equine internal medicine is recommended
  • For client communication: Dutch language is essential; French and English are assets
  • Teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended

We Offer

  • Two-year appointment, renewable twice for two years (subject to positive evaluation)
  • Maximum appointment term of six years (previous appointments at a Flemish university will be deducted)
  • 85% mandate supplemented to full-time with an additional 15% appointment as scientific staff
  • Start date: 1 October 2026 at the earliest
  • Remuneration according to salary scale AAP3
  • Benefits include training opportunities, 36 days paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques
