Job for Researchers: Researcher, fixed-term contract of 3 months

About the Role

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Department of Soil and Environment, invites applications for a short-term researcher position. This is a fixed-term contract of 3 months, based at the Ultuna campus in Uppsala. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in soil and environmental microbiology, with flexible duties tailored to the successful candidate’s expertise and the desired employment duration.

Responsibilities

• Perform anaerobic cultivation of bacteria
• Conduct single cell RNA sequencing experiments
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with project partners and team members
• Additional tasks may be assigned depending on the researcher’s skillset and project needs

Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

• Expertise in molecular methods
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English
• A lab-based PhD in the biological sciences, OR a Master’s degree combined with at least two years of full-time lab experience in molecular biology after degree completion

Preferred Assets

• Experience in single cell RNA sequencing
• Experience in anaerobic cultivation
• Knowledge of bacterial physiology
• Project management experience
• Method development skills

Personal suitability will be assessed. Important traits include the ability to work critically and independently, efficient time management, strong attention to detail, and enthusiasm.

Location Considerations

Due to the short-term nature of the position, candidates already living within commuting distance of Uppsala will be favoured.

About the Department of Soil and Environment

The department conducts research, environmental monitoring and assessment, and higher education for sustainable soil management in agriculture, forestry, and urban environments. Its work aligns with national and international strategies on food security, environmental objectives, climate reporting, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Most activities and employees are based at the Soil-Water-Environment building on the SLU Ultuna campus in Uppsala, with additional research groups and a field station in Skara.
