About the role

The Institut Biosciences et Biotechnologie d’Aix-Marseille (BIAM), a joint research unit associated with the CEA, the CNRS and Aix-Marseille University, is recruiting a study engineer in biochemistry for an 18-month fixed-term contract (CDD). The position is funded through an ANR project and will investigate the links between the CO2-concentrating mechanism and photorespiration in mutants of the green alga Chlamydomonas exposed to variable CO2 concentrations.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan experiments in instrumented photo-bioreactors;
• Monitor photo-bioreactor cultures and perform physiological measurements, including gas exchange;
• Track the abundance of proteins of interest using Western blots;
• Analyse and interpret results in collaboration with the researchers leading the study.

Candidate profile

Candidates should hold a Master’s degree (BAC+5) or equivalent. The position is open to applicants holding a certificate recognising their status as a disabled worker.

Work environment

BIAM is a mixed research unit (UMR CEA, CNRS, AMU) with around 100 permanent staff and 50 non-permanent staff (fixed-term contracts, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, and interns). It is based on the CEA Cadarache site and on the Luminy Faculty of Sciences campus in Marseille. The unit’s fundamental research aims to understand how living organisms respond and adapt to environmental constraints, and to develop technologies for preserving environmental quality, through multidisciplinary approaches on model organisms (algae, plants, bacteria) and biodiversity studies.

Host team

The successful candidate will join the EBMP team (Environnement Bioénergies Microalges et Plantes) on the CEA Cadarache site (Cité des Énergies campus). The team conducts fundamental research with applied perspectives in nutrient perception and homeostasis, lipid metabolism and atmospheric carbon fixation in photosynthetic organisms, including the study of CO2-concentration mechanisms in microalgae. The position is under the direct supervision of Gilles Peltier, scientific lead of the funded project, and Stéphan Cuiné.
