Job for Researchers: Chemical Analyst

About the role

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is looking for a Chemical Analyst to take a central coordinating role in the Dutch national monitoring network for measuring radioactivity in food.

You will perform radioactive analyses on food samples in the laboratory, contribute to the development of new analytical methods, support external operators of food monitoring stations across the country, and maintain the database of measurement results. The role also includes visiting food monitoring stations throughout the Netherlands to carry out calibrations, as well as training operators and organizing proficiency exercises.

The National Food Radioactivity Monitoring Network

This network consists of approximately 50 food monitoring stations distributed throughout the Netherlands. In the event of a radiological emergency, the network provides an immediate nationwide overview, enabling authorities to take appropriate measures based on the monitoring results.

As coordinator of the network, you are responsible for ensuring the operational availability of the monitoring stations, training operators, providing technical support, and coordinating maintenance activities. You will work closely with fellow researchers within Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR) and report to project leaders and the team leader.

Responsibilities

• Perform radioactive analyses on food samples in the laboratory
• Develop and optimize chemical analytical techniques for detecting inorganic compounds in food and feed
• Maintain and manage the database of measurement results
• Visit national monitoring stations for calibrations and on-site support
• Train operators and organize proficiency testing schemes
• Coordinate the operational readiness of the National Food Radioactivity Monitoring Network

Requirements

• Fluency in Dutch (C1 level) is a must-have for this position
• English at B2 level for communication in the international working environment
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• A proactive attitude
• A Bachelor’s degree

What we offer

WUR offers excellent terms of employment, including an excellent pension scheme. Depending on experience, the gross salary ranges from €3,231 to €4,374 per month for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 8). A contract for 28 hours per week can be discussed.

The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational circumstances. Personal development and internal mobility are encouraged.
