Job for Researchers: Electrical Technician in Greenhouse Horticulture — Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands

About the role

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician for its Greenhouse Horticulture research facility in Bleiswijk, Netherlands. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all electrical aspects of the research facility, primarily in greenhouses and the vertical farm. You will work on installation technology, measurement and control technology, and support researchers and colleagues within the facility. Over time, you will participate in a weekly on-call and standby rota.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical faults independently
• Carry out work related to installation technology and measurement/control technology
• Support researchers and colleagues in the research facility
• Ensure all electrical systems remain in excellent operational condition
• Participate in weekly on-call and standby duties (after initial period)

The team

You will join a technical service team of 5 colleagues and report to the Head of Technical Services. Together, you maintain the Bleiswijk research location at the highest standard.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an electrical technician, with an inquisitive and independent working style
• Excellent command of the Dutch language (essential due to daily operational communication)
• English proficiency at level B2 (WUR offers support via its language centre if needed)
• Ability to analyse and resolve complex faults, tracing root causes effectively
• Openness to learning new technologies and staying ahead in greenhouse horticulture
• Solid work experience is valued; candidates without the full listed track record are also encouraged to apply

What we offer

• A gross salary between €3,231 and €4,374 per month (scale 8, based on full-time 36 hours per week), depending on experience
• Contract of 24–36 hours per week (negotiable); initially a temporary contract for one year
