Environmental Fate Modeller (Postdoctoral Fellowship)

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) invites applications for an Environmental Fate Modeller to join the Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) team at Wageningen Environmental Research (WENR). The role supports policymakers with science-based tools for environmental risk assessment, contributing to sustainable agriculture and the protection of ecosystems.

About the role

You will work on projects at the forefront of environmental risk science, developing advanced integrated models at local and landscape scales. These models cover the pathways of chemicals to the environment, their fate, and their impact on non-target organisms. You will translate complex system understanding into insights that inform policy and safeguard ecosystems, working in multidisciplinary teams with high societal impact.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to risk assessment projects within the ERA team.
• Develop models, carry out modelling and programming, and interpret results.
• Support regulatory and research objectives.
• Contribute to scientific publications and strategic development.

About the team

The ERA team is a leading group of more than 30 professionals in pesticide risk assessment and modelling. It collaborates with government agencies, NGOs, and industry, offering a lively international environment and ample opportunity for professional growth.

Your profile

• A proactive team player with strong conceptual and analytical skills.
• At least C1-level communication skills in English, both speaking and writing.
• Knowledge of Dutch, or a willingness to learn it, as a prerequisite.
• This postdoctoral vacancy is open to candidates with a doctorate or master’s degree.

What we offer

• A competitive gross salary between €3,399 and €5,478 per month for a full-time working week of 36 hours, depending on experience, in accordance with CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10).
• A contract for 36 hours per week; a 32-hour contract can be discussed.
• An initial one-year contract, extendable on good performance and organisational circumstances.
