About the position
The Faculty of Forestry at the Technical University in Zvolen (TUZVO), Slovakia, invites applications for one fully funded, four-year, full-time PhD position in Forestry, within the study programme Forest Management, in the research field of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. The successful candidate will conduct doctoral research on the topic: Detection and Delineation of Individual Trees in Complex Forest Stands Using Airborne Laser Scanning Data. The doctoral student will participate in research activities and projects related to the dissertation topic. The position is intended to strengthen a competitive research environment by attracting excellent PhD candidates with strong academic potential and motivation for scientific work.
The Technical University in Zvolen is a modern higher education institution providing education at all three levels within the European Higher Education Area. Within the Slovak higher education system, TUZVO has a distinctive academic profile focused on forestry, wood sciences, ecology, and environmental sciences, complemented by technical, natural, economic, safety, security, and design disciplines. The Faculty of Forestry is one of the university’s four faculties and provides a strong academic and research environment for doctoral studies.
Applications are particularly welcomed from international candidates holding a relevant Master’s degree or equivalent qualification, subject to the applicable admission requirements, funding conditions, and Slovak legislation. Requirements
Applicants must meet the general conditions for admission to doctoral study in accordance with the applicable legislation and the rules of the Technical University in Zvolen.
Mandatory requirements:
- completed Master’s degree or equivalent second-level university degree in a relevant field,
- degree awarded by a higher education institution other than the Technical University in Zvolen,
- academic background relevant to forestry, geoinformatics, remote sensing, GIS, environmental sciences, or a related discipline,
- ability to communicate in English,
- submission of all required application documents within the specified deadline.
Skills/Qualifications
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- strong interest in forest management, remote sensing, and geospatial data analysis,
- motivation for scientific research and doctoral study,
- ability to work independently as well as within a research team,
- good analytical and problem-solving skills,
- experience with GIS, airborne laser scanning, spatial analysis, programming, or data processing is an advantage,
- previous academic or research experience related to forestry, ecology, or geoinformatics is welcome.
