About the Role

This postdoctoral fellowship offers an exciting opportunity to advance high-throughput CRISPR-based genome editing for automated gene deletions, within the BRIGHT initiative at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The multi-year project aims to develop robust microbial cell factories and scalable bioprocesses that convert CO₂‑derived feedstocks into high-volume chemicals. As a genome editing specialist, you will design portable, organism-agnostic editing tools and libraries that drive both fundamental discoveries and real-world biotechnological applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimise CRISPR/Cas strategies for systematic gene deletions, with emphasis on transferability across multiple prokaryotic hosts
  • Co-develop automated, high-throughput protocols for genome‑wide library construction in collaboration with the project team
  • Build and curate high‑throughput collections of deletion mutants (including genome‑wide knockout mutants) for functional characterisation and strain optimisation
  • Analyse mutant libraries using phenotypic and omics‑based approaches
  • Contribute to designing and implementing automation‑compatible workflows using liquid‑handling robotics and related platforms
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and disseminate results through publications and presentations

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in microbiology, synthetic biology, biotechnology, or a related field
  • Hands‑on experience with CRISPR/Cas genome editing in (non‑model) microbial systems
  • Experience with multiple DNA delivery methods (e.g. electroporation, conjugation)
  • Interest or experience in laboratory automation and high‑throughput experimental design
  • Strong analytical skills; programming experience for data analysis and workflow scripting (e.g. Python) is desirable
  • A collaborative mindset, creativity, and excellent English communication skills

Formal Requirement

You must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) by the start of the appointment.

What We Offer

Employment Terms

  • Full‑time position for 2 years; starting date 1 January 2027 (or by mutual agreement)
  • Salary according to the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations; supplements may be negotiated under DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff
