Postdoctoral Fellowship: Postdoc in Seabird Ecology – Aarhus University, Denmark

About the role

The Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University invites applications for a 17-month postdoctoral position in seabird ecology. The position is part of the citizen science-driven SUPRE project on seabird mortality in Denmark, which involves volunteer‐based beach surveys and carcass collection. The postdoc will be based at the Section for Arctic Ecosystem Ecology in Roskilde and will collaborate closely with BirdLife Denmark, the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, and the department’s marine pollution research group.

Start date: 1 November 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
Duration: Fixed term until 31 March 2028 (17 months)
Location: Frederiksborgvej 399, 4000 Roskilde, Denmark

Responsibilities

• Analyse and interpret data on beached seabird occurrence and mortality.
• Evaluate the impact of observed mortality on seabird populations.
• Write and publish scientific manuscripts reporting project findings.
• Contribute to necropsies as needed.
• Collaborate with project partners and researchers working on plastic ingestion and contaminant body burdens.

Requirements

Essential

• PhD in seabird ecology or a closely related field.
• Experience with statistical analysis and visualisation of ecological data.
• Proven ability in scientific writing and publication.
• Strong collaborative skills and ability to work in a team.
• Excellent command of English.

Desirable

• Experience with avian necropsies.
