About the Role
The Institute for Bioanalytics and Agro-Metabolomics at the Department of Agricultural Sciences, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), invites applications for a full-time (40 hours/week) position as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Senior Scientist). This is an unlimited position starting 1 August 2026, located at the BOKU campus in Tulln an der Donau, Austria. The role combines research, teaching, and leadership responsibilities within the mycotoxin and metabolomics research field.
Responsibilities
- Acquire and lead research projects, particularly in mycotoxin research
- Organise and deliver academic teaching courses
- Plan, coordinate, and execute analytical work in mycotoxin research and metabolomics
- Establish, optimise, and validate analytical methods, especially LC-MS/MS and HRMS, for targeted and untargeted metabolomics
- Directly supervise project staff as immediate line manager
- Mentor, train, and guide researchers, doctoral candidates, and students
- Prepare animal experiment applications
- Coordinate collaborations with national and international academic and industrial partners
- Analyse and interpret complex analytical data
- Produce scientific publications, reports, and conference presentations (national/international)
- Take equipment responsibility for liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry instruments
- Participate in university self-governance (committees, commissions)
Requirements
Essential
- Completed PhD in chemistry or a related discipline
- Negotiation-level proficiency in both German and English (C1 or equivalent)
Desired Qualifications
- Track record of successful third-party funding acquisition
- Demonstrated expertise in mycotoxin research, metabolomics, and/or biomarker development
- Experience with both targeted and untargeted metabolomics (LC-MS/MS, HRMS)
- Knowledge of experimental design, quality management, and analytical method validation
- Hands-on experience with liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry instruments from different manufacturers
- Skill in analysing complex datasets using statistical methods
- Teaching experience in analytical chemistry

- Employment in pay group B1 lit. b under the Austrian University Collective Agreement
- Minimum gross monthly salary of €5,014.30 (paid 14 times per year), depending on recognised previous experience
