About the Role
The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) invites applications for a Professor of Large Animal Surgery. The department conducts undergraduate education, research, and postgraduate education in veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing, and integrates the University Animal Hospital. The subject focuses on large animal surgery, primarily horses, as well as ruminants and pigs.
Responsibilities
- Lead research and development in large animal surgery.
- Teach and supervise students at first- and second-cycle levels, both theoretically and clinically.
- Serve as principal supervisor for doctoral students and supervise residents in international specialist training.
- Perform administrative duties within the department, faculty, and university.
Eligibility
- Good knowledge of English.
- Meet the requirements for eligibility to practise as a veterinary surgeon according to Swedish regulations (Act 2009:302, SJVFS 2016:9, Directive 2005/36/EC).
Assessment Criteria
Research Expertise
- Experience as principal supervisor for doctoral students through to degree completion.
- Supervision experience in international specialist training (residency).
Teaching Expertise
- Planning, implementation, examination, and assessment of teaching at first- and second-cycle levels.
- Experience in both theoretical and clinical teaching.
- Ability to integrate research and scientific approaches into teaching.
- Supervision and examination of first- and second-cycle courses.
- Training in teaching and learning in higher education or equivalent knowledge.
- Pedagogic vision and reflection.
Other Abilities
- Developing and leading activities and staff within academia.
- Communicating and collaborating internally and with external stakeholders.
- Communicating research and development work.
