About the role

The Department of Law at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a permanent, full-time professorship in public law, with particular emphasis on constitutional law, international law and administrative law (collectively referred to as “the subject area”). The position is expected to be filled from 1 March 2027 or by mutual agreement.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to the faculty’s overall research strategy and to the department’s research and teaching environment within the subject area. Duties include:

• making a substantial contribution to the department’s research environment, including publishing and communicating scientific results within the subject area;
• participating in national and international research groups within the subject area and relevant interdisciplinary fields;
• leading the further development of the subject area at the highest international level, including supervising PhD students and offering research training courses;
• undertaking research leadership, including actively working to realise the department’s goal of increased external funding;
• contributing to the teaching environment through research-based teaching and supervision at bachelor’s and master’s level within the subject area, and preparing written examination assignments;
• teaching in Danish, including constitutional law, international law and administrative law on the bachelor of laws (bach.jur.) and cand.scient.pol. programmes, and possibly other courses within the subject area; courses may also be offered in Danish or English after agreement;
• handling teaching-administrative tasks, including academic coordination between internal and external teachers and/or student instructors.

Requirements

Appointment as professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level normally obtained through a satisfactory period of employment as associate professor within the subject area, or equivalent qualifications. Both the breadth and depth of the candidate’s scientific production and research-based teaching will be assessed.

For permanent appointment as professor at Aarhus BSS, the appointed candidate must, within a two-year period, complete the faculty’s supervision course and the faculty’s course in Online and Blended Learning at the Centre for Educational Development, Aarhus University.

In assessing research qualifications, emphasis will be placed on documented, broad and in-depth knowledge of the fundamental rules and principles of the subject area, as well as demonstrated ability to apply these within one or more specialist areas.

Assessment criteria

• Documentation of highly original scientific production at an international level, including contribution to the further development of the subject area;
• Documentation of publication with leading national and international journals/publishers and experience presenting research within the subject area;
• A plan for further developing the subject area;
• Documented teaching qualifications within the subject area, presented in the form of a teaching portfolio;
• Documented ability to undertake research leadership and possibly other management functions, including building strong research environments;
• Fulfilment of other qualification requirements set out in the vacancy notice, including documentation of external funding where applicable.
