Description
Original title: Ingénieur de recherche : Composés hybrides organiques-inorganiques lamellaires stimuli-répondants (H/F)
About the role
The French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), through the Institut de Science des Matériaux de Mulhouse (IS2M – UMR UHA-CNRS 7361), is recruiting a research engineer (H/F) for a 24-month fixed-term contract (CDD), full time. The position is based in Mulhouse (68057, Haut-Rhin) and is scheduled to start on 1 October 2026.
The research will focus on stimuli-responsive lamellar organic-inorganic hybrid compounds, including the optimisation of synthetic routes for materials incorporating molecules of interest, full characterisation of the resulting compounds, and evaluation of their behaviour under different stimuli. The work will be carried out within the framework of the ANR Industrial Chair Matiaire, a partnership between IS2M and the company Timac AGRO.
This offer is open to applicants holding a title recognising their status as a disabled worker.
Responsibilities
- Optimise synthesis routes for lamellar compounds incorporating various molecules of interest developed in the laboratory
- Characterise synthesised materials using techniques such as X-ray diffraction, FTIR, UV-visible spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermal analysis, SEM and solid-state NMR
- Study the behaviour of hybrid systems under different stimuli
- Assess the stability and evolution of materials in different environments over time
- Conduct studies on materials in both solid and liquid states
- Investigate the formation mechanisms of the most promising compounds
- Develop and implement scale-up strategies for the most effective synthesis routes
- Analyse and interpret experimental data
- Write scientific reports and contribute to the dissemination of non-confidential results through presentations and publications
Profile
Candidates should hold a BAC+5 qualification (Master’s degree or equivalent).
Professional expertise
- Knowledge of synthesis and functionalisation processes for lamellar compounds
- Expertise in characterisation techniques for organic-inorganic hybrid compounds
Personal skills
- Open-mindedness and intellectual curiosity
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment
- Strong organisational and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent scientific writing skills in English (C2 level)
- Ability to present results concisely to both scientific and general audiences
- Good interpersonal communication skills
Work environment
The research will be conducted in the Matiaire joint laboratory, located within the IS2M on the Illberg campus of the Université de Haute-Alsace. IS2M brings together approximately 95 permanent staff members from chemistry, physics and biology around the theme of functional materials, and hosts 11 ISO9001-certified technical platforms with 41 items of equipment. Timac AGRO, based in Saint-Malo, is a multinational company with 7,400 employees in 39 subsidiaries, specialising in soil nutrition, fertilisation, biostimulation and animal production. The long-standing collaboration between IS2M and Timac AGRO led to the creation of the Matiaire joint laboratory and the ANR Industrial Chair Matiaire, which was selected in the 2024 call for projects.
