About the role

The Landwirtschaftliche Technologiezentrum Augustenberg (LTZ) in Rheinstetten-Forchheim is seeking a scientific researcher (m/f/d) in the field of climate protection and biodiversity in agriculture to join its Agroecology Division as soon as possible. The earliest possible starting date is 4 May 2026.

The post is part-time with 65% of regular weekly working hours (currently 39.5 hours per week) and is fixed-term until 30 September 2027. LTZ is an institution within the portfolio of the Ministry of Food, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection Baden-Württemberg. It works across applied research and knowledge transfer and cooperates with national and international partners in a role at the interface between science, advisory services, practice and policy.

Responsibilities

• Review and synthesise research results on climate protection in agriculture and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes, including greenhouse gas accounting, cross-farm adaptation to climate change, and biodiversity measures and their effects.
• Supervise trials on climate protection and biodiversity at LTZ sites and on fields throughout Baden-Württemberg.
• Compile and statistically analyse collected data.
• Develop and further improve educational materials on biodiversity and climate protection for agricultural colleges, advisory staff, farming practice and the interested public.
• Identify project topics, contribute to project design and scientific supervision, acquire third-party funding and handle project administration.
• Write reports and publish specialist contributions.
• Plan and deliver knowledge transfer and continuing education events, including lectures.

Requirements

Essential qualifications and skills

• A completed university degree (Diploma/University or consecutive Master of Science after a relevant Bachelor) in agricultural science, agrarian biology, biology, geoecology, environmental science or a comparable subject.
• Knowledge of agricultural crop production.
• Sound knowledge of climate change and biodiversity with an agricultural focus.
• Experience in data analysis, preferably using the programme “R”.
• Proficient use of common MS Office applications.
• Presentation experience.
• Willingness to participate in training and continuing professional development.
• Good written and spoken English and very good German at C2 level.
• Willingness to work in the field and to arrange working hours flexibly according to the demands of the post.
• Valid driving licence category B.

Desirable experience

• Professional experience in the fields described above.
• Experience in agricultural practice and field trials.
• Knowledge of agri-environmental support measures related to climate protection and biodiversity.
• Experience in acquiring and managing research projects.
• Experience in adult education and in designing educational materials for this target group.
