About the Role

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Aarhus University invites applications for up to three fixed-term Researcher positions in Data Science and Digitalization in Smart Farming. The positions are full-time, starting on 15 November 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and ending on 15 November 2029. The successful candidates will contribute to the development of digital farming through advanced data science, predictive modelling, and intelligent systems for the agro-food domain.

Responsibilities

  • Advance data science, predictive modelling, and intelligent systems for the agro-food domain.
  • Adopt theoretical research results (algorithmic developments, data mining techniques, etc.) to feasible deployment.
  • Integrate the developed techniques with modern ICT/IoT and other digitalization systems.
  • Cooperate with other research groups and industry partners to coordinate and acquire new research projects and funding.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • PhD in technical sciences, computer engineering, or a similar field.
  • Technical science or technical education (e.g., specialization in electrical engineering, mathematics, or computer science) with research experience in operations research, programming, modelling, and data science.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, Java, Git, etc.).
  • Ability and interest in teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation.
  • Domain knowledge of biological production systems.
  • Ability to communicate and disseminate research results to research environments, society, and industry.
  • Ability to participate in the further development of research in Operations Management, including funding acquisition.

Preferred Competences

  • Proven scientific competences in agricultural engineering, automation, signal processing, and data processing/interpretation.
  • Experience with acquisition of information from biological systems (e.g., status of essential parameters) and transmission to data processing or management systems.
  • Experience with field trials and test methodologies for agricultural technology and digital solutions.
  • Minimum two years of post‑graduate research and publication experience.

Who We Are

The successful candidate will join the Operations Management Group within the Section of Communication, Control and Automation at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Researchers in the section work on cognitive and development robotics, network computing, communications and storage, networks and analytics, and operations management. The group applies innovative technologies to domains such as agri‑food to improve management and sustainability of production systems. The work involves knowledge of computer engineering, data analytics, modelling, and transformations in natural and engineered ecosystems.

The primary place of work is AU‑Viborg (Blichers Allé 20, 8800 Viborg), with occasional work at Finlandsgade 10, 8200 Aarhus. The area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

Appointment will be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority (basic salary steps 4‑8 for researchers) and includes a pensionable pay supplement of DKK 49,300 per year (31.03.2012 level) for full-time employment.
