Job for Researchers: Tenure Track Professor in Animal Nutrition and Lactation Physiology – Aarhus University

About the Role

The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Aarhus University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Animal Nutrition and Lactation Physiology, with an expected start date of 1 February 2027. We seek a candidate with a strong background in the nutrition and physiology of lactating animals, particularly lactating sows and suckling piglets. The position is full-time and based at the AU Viborg campus.

Research Tasks

• Build and lead an externally funded, interdisciplinary research group in sow nutrition and piglet survival, engaging national and international collaborators.
• Contribute to research developing nutritional strategies for sows and their piglets, targeting improved sow endurance and piglet survival and growth during the suckling period.
• Teach on lactating animals, including livestock and companion animals.
• Conduct research-based advisory work for authorities to support regulatory and policy decisions; actively exchange knowledge with society and industry.
• Supervise students at bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels, as well as technical staff within your area of expertise.

Your Profile

Tenure Track Assistant Professor

• Documented research qualifications at a high international level in the relevant field.
• Teaching and supervision experience.
• Must meet the academic criteria outlined for tenure-track assistant professors at Aarhus University.

Associate Professor

• Ability to carry out independent, well-organized research and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
• Documented teaching qualifications at a high international level.
• Experience with project management.
• Must meet the academic criteria for associate professors at Aarhus University.

The preferred candidate is expected to join and contribute to ongoing research within the Monogastric Nutrition research group.

Tenure Track Programme

The position is part of the Technical Sciences Tenure Track Programme at Aarhus University. Assistant Professors are appointed for six years with the prospect of performance-based advancement to a tenured Associate Professorship. The programme includes access to research infrastructure, postgraduate teacher training, a mentoring programme, and support for developing scientific networks. A mid-way evaluation occurs after three years, and a final tenure review after five and a half years. A positive review leads to a tenured Associate Professor position.
